It’s me, Juan Pablo Cangas. Originally, I intended to send you
this as my last 2006 newsletter. However, while I was
writing this, our guests arrived and I was forced to
leave it for today.

When I started writing, it was 21:13 PM and there were less
than 3 hours left for the New Year to arrive. By now, I have
woken up from a quite unusual New Year night. I won’t go
into details, but let’s just say that I had fun
I certainly hope you had a great holiday as well.

In any case, I want to wish you my best for the upcoming year.
There’s also a bit of a story I want to share with you today.
It happened to me none other day than yesterday, 31st December.

Yesterday, as every day, I did my usual internet marketing
activities after having lunch. That includes checking out
my email, and doing some maintenance on my websites.
One website in particular (an article directory I have at
http://www.free-articles-directory.info/), requires me
to approve or reject new articles on a regular basis.
So today I was just doing to do that, but something
was NOT right. As I typed my domain name into my browser,
the following message was all I got:

“This Account Has Been Suspended”
(please contact support, etc.)

“Holy sh&*!” Yeah… you should have seen my face, LOL.
Specially a few seconds later, after I realized what this
really meant. You see, I have at least 5 different domains
sitting on the same account as that one. So if my hosting
account was suspended, that meant ALL my domains were going down.
And I was right. All my domains, except getfreedom.ws (which
is hosted on a different server), were down yesterday.

First of all, my primary domain, a paid membership site
(http://www.resellers-massive-vault.info/) was down.
No members were able to login, and no sales were made.
Then, http://www.juanpablocangas.com/ was also down.
That site holds most of my affiliate links
(e.g. http://www.juanpablocangas.com/recommends/XYZ).
If that site is down, all those tracking links go down,
along with a major portion of my affiliate income!

This is, indeed, a lot of trouble. A friend from
NEW ZEALAND hosts my sites. She is practically all the way
around the world from me. We live in completely opposed
time zones. Day here is night there, and vice versa.
Which means I don’t get to talk much to her, specially
being that I usually don’t login to Yahoo or MSN messenger
that often.

Well, take all this, and make it happen just before
the New Year holiday. Ain’t that a pain in the *ss?!
Yeah, sure it is. HOWEVER, as always, good things
can come out of adversity.

See, I was planning to move my sites to a bigger company,
one which could give me 24/7 support. I absolutely trust
my friend, but she is just getting started with her
hosting business, which means she obviously can’t
address all support issues at any time of the day.
I will probably leave some less important sites
hosted with her, however, for my business-crucial sites,
I really need 24/7 support.

I had been pushing this decision over and over, for MONTHS.
I said to myself “it’s working, so why fix it?”,
“it’s so cheap, I don’t want to pay more for hosting”,
“I don’t want to move over all that files and databases”,
and a lot more excuses that I don’t remember exactly.

However, now that this little “disaster” happened,
I came to realize how important it is that we take
our business seriously. I (re-)realized how important
it is to have regular backups for all my sites
and databases (forums, blogs, and many more things
depend on them). I also realized that a “blackout”
can occur ANYTIME (it struck me on the New Year, for
God’s sake!), and you need to be PREPARED for it.

Just like you wouldn’t leave your car parked without
at least locking it out, or you wouldn’t leave
your children alone on the streets, you shouldn’t
leave your BUSINESS to it’s own luck. Don’t use
a free hosting or autoresponder. Make regular backups,
depending on how frequently you update your site(s).
Don’t rely on anything that doesn’t give you 100%
peace of mind. In summary, don’t leave anything
to chance.

If you take precautions and do things right, you
shouldn’t have to go through any situations like
what I told you above. By the way, my hosting
has been restored and today I immediately backed up
everything! I am so grateful I didn’t lose anything.
But I won’t count on it next time. I’ll be proactive,
and I suggest you take the same attitude.

This is quite unrelated, but such an important news for my home country, Chile (and the world, it seems), that I made a new Squidoo Lens about this. I’m finally catching up with this Web 2.0 stuff and wanna see how well it works. I also registered a domain name for Pinochet. I have installed a forum and plan to make it a very busy place, with discussions running both on Spanish and English. The DNS info is currently propagating, so the page doesn’t come up still.

Let’s see how this little experiment on a breaking news event turns out.

or finishing homework which is due the same day, while my body
BEGS me for a break. Well, the time has come and now I’m officially
on vacation! Heck, if I ever needed one, it was this year.

During my extended absence from internet marketing and writing to you,
LOTS of stuff have happened. We have seen pretty much the “death”
of everything come and go, marketers going on a rampage against
each other, and a generalized state of chaos that I have never
whitnessed before on the industry. Yeah, it’s true that much of all this
has been hype, smoke and mirrors, but changes in the IM field
are DEFINITELY happening, and we all need to reflect and see
how we will SURVIVE. Yes, I said “survive”, because I’m pretty sure
there will be casualties after these painful, but necessary process.

As my reputation (and list has grown quite a bit over time,
and I have been receiving more and more thank you emails
from subscribers like yourself, I now feel it’s my duty,
more than ever has been, to help you go through this. It’s my duty
to make sure you are one of the survivors, and not another casualty.
While I don’t have my success assured either, I’ll find a way as well.
To do this, we will need to take new paths and probably
buy a few products/services along the way. Right off the top of my head
I can think about web hosting, PLR articles/products, site templates,
automation tools, instruction (courses, ebooks, videos), etc.

I’m often invited to JVs, often with a chance to check out
the actual product that is being sold. My official policy is this
(as I recently told to the representative of a supposely well-known
marketer, when he offered me a JV):

I only endorse products which:

- I have personally reviewed for quality and value
- Come from a marketer I trust from his/her proven ETHICAL track record.
(note: high sales figures don’t impress me, so, Cody Moya,
I’m sorry, but you won’t get any sales from me… Oops! Did I name him?
So what? You need to get your act together, buddy

When you see me recommending something, you can be 100% sure
I’m not selling you on CRAP. I have a high “No-BS” standard,
and that creates a quality filter for everything that comes
into my view. By the way, since I replied to that “representative”
with my policy and asked him for a review copy of the product,
he disappeared from the map! LOL.

One thing I’m seeing is that we will have to move onto
other markets, besides the “guru internet marketing” niche,
as Mike Filsaime likes to call it. That doesn’t mean totally
abandoning the IM field if you are active on it, but it’s
seriously becoming excessively competitive. Niche marketing
is something we all (myself included) need to learn
and actually start doing. We cannot depend on selling stuff
to other marketers forever. Yes, the IM field is still profitable
and you can always sell back your knowledge gained in
selling on other niches, but diversification is the way to go.

With that said, I want to introduce you to one of the FEW
programs that has caught my attention (and made it through
my “BS-filter”. There is nothing to buy yet, as the launch
is on December the 4th. Meanwhile, you can get a free video

I learned quite a bit from this free video.

Phew… it has been a hectic semester at college.
I’ve been working less than any time before
I started this internet marketing business thing.

I’m feeling kinda unmotivated, even though
